My Favourite Childhood Book

Books....

To me, reading a book somewhere cosy and quiet, is just so relaxing.

You drift off into worlds that you never knew would be possible. You fall in love with characters or cry at the parts that tug on your heart strings (or maybe that's just me 😂) and you may also feel the emotions that characters go through and sometimes you feel like part of a family!

In the winter, I love being at home, snuggled up with a blanket and a cup of tea or hot chocolate with marshmallows, and just reading a good book with no stress or anxieties.

I love the sound of the rain outside as well when I'm reading. ☔

From a very young age, I loved books and in my spare time, I loved to read. The first book I picked up to read was 'Indigo Blue' by Cathy Cassidy. I remember reading the first couple of pages and I was instantly hooked! I couldn't put the book down and I would hide away in my room to read it.

I have now read this book more times than I can count and it's still a favourite.

The story is about a young girl named Indigo or Indie for short. Indie has a little sister named Misti and they live with their Mum. Unfortunately, Indie and Misti's Mum is a victim of domestic violence. The person who was abusive was actually their Mum's boyfriend, Max. Indie's Mum knew it wasn't right and she takes both Indie and Misti away from Max and the three of them move into a new flat.

Indie's best friend from school is called Jo. Indie, at one point, believes that Jo no longer has any interest in her as Indie doesn't tell her about her Mum's abusive relationship with Max.

The flat that they move into isn't the best and is very dirty with no heating to keep them warm. To top it off, they have a grumpy neighbour named Mrs. Green who isn't very pleasant to them. The family don't have much money so they have to live off of some biscuits.

Indie's Mum gives Max another chance and again, she is the victim of his horrible abuse. Max is then put on trial for what he has done....

I don't want to spoil the book for anyone who would like to read it so I will keep the rest of the story to myself.

The book is an amazing read, and even as an adult, I still feel the same emotions I did as a child. This book is just written so perfectly and it helped me to understand what domestic abuse was even at a young age.
